The Jackson Heart Foundation has partnered with the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) to launch a new public health study focused on the Museum Trail.
Understanding the Impact of the Museum Trail
Opened in 2021, the 2.5-mile Museum Trail links parks, museums, and neighborhoods, giving Jackson residents and visitors safe access to walking, running, cycling, and outdoor recreation. With the next phase of the trail breaking ground soon, this study will help us better understand how the trail is already improving health and quality of life, and how a completed trail could make an even greater positive impact for Jacksonians.
Researchers will gather stories and experiences from local trail users to learn more about how access to green space and safe, connected paths encourages physical activity, supports wellness, and strengthens our community.
The Jackson Heart Foundation’s mission is to fight heart disease in our city through education, prevention, and early detection. The Museum Trail is one of our key projects for building a healthier Jackson by expanding public access to recreational space, alternative transportation options, and public fitness areas.
By studying the trail’s impact now, we can:
Document the health benefits it brings to Jackson residents.
Support funding for future trail expansion.
Show how urban trails can transform public health for generations to come.
